At newblue, we reinvent craft practices of the past by recycling industrial waste of the present to co-create collectible homeware of the future.
Crafts of the Past
Indian Crafts of the past are sustainable production methods of today. They use locally abundant resources, generational material wisdom, and low-energy production methods to make products within communities to nurture society and the environment. We co-create with the communities, to learn, experiment and design with them.
Jaipur Blue Pottery is a unique 18th-century pottery technique that does not use clay but uses local quartz powder, recycled glass, and biobinders to create a ceramic body with just one firing. Together, with local material scientists and artisans, we test new recipes between the lab and the craft workshop to reinvent the blue pottery craft with a stronger and more sustainable material.
Waste of the Present
Our perspective on waste focuses on abundance. From buildings to industries, waste is the abundant material in nature that provides accessibility for experimentation, play, and sustainable production. Over 60 recipes later, we arrived at one made with fired sanitary ware waste, restoring materials from the largest landfills of non-biodegradable materials in Rajasthan and Gujarat.

Community and Conversation for the Future
Craft communities are the building blocks of local sustainable economies. Their wisdom and knowledge of the land and its resources are unparalleled, allowing us immense learning and collaboration opportunities to create products for the future that are good for people and the planet alike.
